Meet Dr. Sarah Smasal
A Childhood Injury Led Me to Chiropractic
I was born and raised in small town Wisconsin. When I was young, my parents had an above-ground pool with a deck around it. A pool party birthday celebration caused an accident that would lead me to chiropractic. My brother and cousin tried to throw me into the pool, but ended up dropping me on the side. I landed on my back, and the pain started.
My mom had seen our local chiropractor for several years to get help with her tension headaches and migraines. He showed me such phenomenal results that I decided at age 12 to be a chiropractor.
Continuing a Health Education
I began my career in health by becoming licensed in massage therapy through the Blue Sky Education Foundation in Grafton, WI. After I met my husband, he encouraged me to continue my dream of becoming a chiropractor. We made the move to St. Louis where I attended Logan College of Chiropractic, the same institution that my childhood chiropractor had attended. I received my Doctor of Chiropractic in 2001.
I was very grateful for my background in massage and from working with a chiropractor when I began chiropractic college. I knew I’d use the Activator® instrument in my practice, just like my first chiropractor did. I have the qualification of an Advanced Proficiency Rating in the Activator Methods® adjusting technique.
A Happy Family Life
My family and I spent four years in the Chicago area where I began practicing before making the move back to Wisconsin. My husband is a software engineer. We have two sons, born in 2001 and 2004. We enjoy boating on Lake Winnebago and Lake Michigan in our warmer months. Our family remains active in the winter by downhill skiing.
